Hokey Pokey Update: success. The girls were much more coordinated than the boys (just saying).
Other News: Today was the last day for the week due to the Independence Day festivities down here. Some of my kids showed up today in traditional Honduran outfits, and they were TOO DIE FOR adorable. I just couldn’t resist the urge to pick them up and spin them around. Let’s see… girls in dresses with colored patterns and braids with red flowers in their hair. Boys in flowing outfits with colored patterns or in jeans and button-ups with sombreros. I even wore one of my boys’ for a while, and the strangest thing happened. This little boy suddenly opened up to me and starting giving me hugs because I was wearing his sombrero. My assistant said he felt safe with me because I was wearing his hat. Then… he started blowing kisses at me and drawing a heart in the sky. So I asked her if a guy giving a girl his hat in Honduras means you’re getting married or something. She said no. I’m still skeptical.
Shocking Revelation: I have another boy in my class who I swear says to me every day “Miss may I please color please?” I thought it was so cute so I tried to let him use his crayons as much as possible...and then today I realized he is really saying “Miss may I drink water please?” Ha, hope he hasn’t been too dehydrated for the last month. I love first grade.
what a great day - lots of progress!
